Remember Mindfulness – breathe slowly
Anger management
I was angry with my friend:
I told my wrath, my wrath did end,
I was angry with my foe:
I told it not, my wrath did grow.
William Blake.
Writing two hundred years ago, Blake understood
the value of talking therapy. As addicted people, we
should know the dangers of anger and resentment –
we are told often enough. Unresolved, these powerful
emotions can easily lead us to relapse. It has been
said that not forgiving someone is like drinking rat
poison and expecting the rat to die. Dealing with
emotions is a prime example of positive action in
recovery. Am I ready to handle anger positively?
My feelings just sometimes appear, but they can be
managed. I must not let them fester – I can regulate
my thoughts. It’s my choice how long I want to let
others’ actions affect my peace of mind. Anger can
always be dealt with appropriately with the right
approach. Today I ask to manage my anger instead
of simply reacting angrily to situations.
