Remember Mindfulness – relax your body
Boundaries
Our personal boundaries define us by protecting our
basic identity – our principles, standards, and
beliefs. When we decide to live in a way that is
healthy and morally correct, such as in recovery
from addiction, our boundaries show us what is
acceptable. It might be hard to work the Twelve
Steps thoroughly for example, without proper
boundaries, because they demand rigorous honesty
and a willingness to grow along spiritual lines. Am I
ready to establish healthy personal boundaries?
Knowing that you are trying your very best to live by
high moral principles brings inner satisfaction. In
Step Three, when we turn our will and our lives over
to the care of God as we understand him, we are also
saying that from now on we intend to establish firm
boundaries. In the past, when we had poor
boundaries, we were in effect allowing others to
dictate our life. No more. God will help us. He does
not promise an easy ride, but simply the inner
contentment that comes from doing the right thing.
Today I pray for God’s help in establishing firm and
appropriate boundaries as markers by which I will
live my life along principles that match my
conscience.
